Browser tools — nothing is uploaded
Most tools on PDF168 (merge, split, rotate, remove pages, images↔PDF) run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your files are read and processed locally on your own device and are never uploaded to any server.
Advanced tools — processed on our server
Some advanced tools (OCR, Office↔PDF conversion, compression, PDF/A, encrypt/decrypt, watermark, and similar) cannot run in a browser, so for those your file is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our processing server, converted, and the result is returned to you. These files are processed transiently and are not retained for longer than necessary to complete the operation. Each tool's page indicates when it uses the server.
Open-source components
Some server-side processing uses open-source software. The Translate PDF → Editable (Word) mode converts PDFs into editable Word with pdf2docx, which uses PyMuPDF (AGPL-3.0); in accordance with the AGPL, the complete source of these components is available, unmodified, at the linked repositories. PDF and Office conversions use the MIT core of Stirling-PDF.

Data we collect
We don't require an account, and we don't ask for personal information to use the tools. Standard server logs (such as IP address and request data) may be recorded for security and reliability, and third-party advertising may set cookies as described above.
