How to Fill an Interactive PDF Form in Your Browser

Fill Form is for PDFs that already contain interactive form fields, also called AcroForm fields. It supports text fields, checkboxes, radio groups, and dropdowns. It shows those fields as a list using their internal names, rather than showing an editable page preview.

A scanned application sheet may look like a form, but its printed lines are only pixels. This tool cannot type over those lines or create a new field. Before starting, check whether the file has actual fillable fields or ask the sender for a fillable version.

Fill an existing form

1. Open Fill Form and select your PDF.
2. Check the detected field count and list. If the page says This PDF has no fillable form fields, the current tool cannot complete that document. OCR can recognize words in a scan, but it does not automatically create interactive form fields.
3. Enter answers in the listed text fields. Use the displayed checkboxes and dropdowns for the available choices; radio groups appear as a choice list.
4. Compare the field names with a copy of the original open in your PDF reader. Names such as Text1 may not tell you which printed question they belong to.
5. Decide whether to use the built-in Flatten checkbox. Leave it unchecked if the recipient still needs to edit the fields. Check it if you want the saved values incorporated into the page.
6. Download the result, saved as filled.pdf.
7. Open that file in a PDF reader and check the actual page layout before sending it.

The tool does not offer text-position, font-size, or zoom controls. If an answer is too long for the field, shortening the answer or using a form editor with layout controls may be necessary.

Verify values in the exported PDF

Use a simple check for each type of field: make sure a text answer appears in the correct place, the intended checkbox is ticked, and the chosen radio or dropdown value is present. Check names, account numbers, dates, and every page of a multi-page form.

For example, two internal field names might correspond to “postal address” and “email address.” A complete-looking list in the browser does not establish that you put each answer in the right field. Reopening the PDF is how you check that mapping.

Look for clipped text, missing characters, and unexpected font appearance, especially with multilingual names. If the tool reports an error or a value is missing, keep the original and correct the problem before sending the form.

Flatten without an extra upload

You can flatten during the same download using the checkbox on this page. The form stays in your browser for this operation; there is no need to send it to the separate Flatten PDF tool, which is server-based.

Flattening is useful when a recipient should see the filled values without editable form controls. It does not password-protect the file, prove who completed it, or stop later editing with other software. Keep an unflattened copy if you may need to revise the answers.

If you need a signature or a different type of editor

After checking the filled form, Sign PDF can place a drawn, typed, or uploaded signature image. That is a separate step from filling existing fields.

For a flat scan with no fields, obtain an interactive version from its creator or use an editor that explicitly supports adding text to a page. A searchable scan and an interactive form are different things. Choosing the right input avoids spending time looking for controls that this tool does not have.

Your source file is not overwritten. Keep it alongside the checked output until you are satisfied that the recipient has everything needed.
